For both periods (medieval and modern/ contemporary) the object of these studies will centre on:
- Writing practices: scribal practices for the medieval period (how can the scribes’ interventions be accounted for, be they favourable or detrimental to the general meaning of the text); contemporary re-writing practices for new purposes—e.g. an edition, a re-edition and/ or cross-language translations; writing practices in the new media: lexicon, syntax, semantics usage and the repercussions on the construction of the general meaning ;
- Cognitive or linguistic approaches to re-writing processes, in the contemporary sense of the word (real time re-writings, comparative studies of drafts leading to a final text) whether in a learning situation or not ;
- Semantic and/or lexical borrowings and reinvestment processes (semasiology and onomasiology) ;
- Choices for anaphoric/cataphoric or deictic referential expressions (including studies taking into account source texts and translations, correctio, the selection of variants or lessons…) ;
- Anaphoric chains in the broad sense (co-reference linked to anaphora) ;
- The role of verbal semantics associated with nominal semantics (actantial construction of the verb and the nouns that fulfil its actantial roles) and of the prepositional or thematic structure on referential continuity ;
- Cases of referential ambiguity, in their capacity to reveal how R-continuity works.
